So I'm in Canada and I buy a fair amount of USA stocks in USD currency. If I buy directly from my CAD account the amount gets exchanged into USD and that's my buying power.
I have a few securities where my average buy price is lower than what my brokerage is displaying in my account.
Example: AMD shares. I have the purchasing documentation showing my buy price was $95USD. But my average share price shows over $97USD in my account.
I called them a few weeks ago and I was told that they exchange my currency AND the share price. So my they exchange the share price from CAD to USD and that's my average share price. But why the hell would they exchange both my currency and the share price?
Has anybody ever heard of this? It doesn't make sense to me and I feel like I'm being dicked around a bit.
Any advice or information would be helpful. Thank you.
