Musk encourages employees to “overcome the difficulties together” while not forgetting to wield layoffs

Elon Musk said in an internal memo that Tesla is going through a “very tough quarter” as it struggles with supply chain bottlenecks.

In an email to employees, the founder and CEO of the electric car leader implored them to help get the company back on track, saying, “This has been a very tough quarter due to supply chain and production challenges, so it's even more important that we work hard to get back to production!”

In one of the letters, he said, “We actually make great, real products that people love and make life and the world a better place.”

He also stressed to his employees, “No matter what is going on in this messed up world, what you are doing is pure goodwill, and I have much more respect and admiration for you than I do for the richest guys on Wall Street.”

Musk also wrote in another letter that the plant in Austin, Texas, is increasing production, the Berlin plant also produced nearly 1,000 cars last week, and its Fremont, California, plant is producing a record number of cars in a single day.

Not forgetting to swing the axe on layoffs

Musk often encourages employees to “sprint” on the production line near the end of the quarter, but these internal memos are getting more attention than usual given some of the comments he made not long ago.

Two weeks ago, Musk said in an email titled “Global Hiring Pause”: “I have a very bad feeling about the economy.” He also said that due to the current tough global economic environment, Tesla needed to “reduce its workforce by approximately 10 percent globally.

The latest news shows that Tesla has fired Christopher Bousigues, its regional manager in Singapore. Bousigues announced this on Sunday (June 12) on Link, but he did not give the specific reason for his dismissal, only that it was related to the company's previously announced “10% layoff “related.
