Question about VOO (Vanguard SP 500 ETF)

This is more curiosity than anything else.

Let's say I have $10k worth of VOO. If a company drops out of the SP 500, will Vanguard sell my stock in that company and buy stock in whatever company replaces it? Or will I retain all the stock I've bought thus far, but future purchases will take in this new company?
