Are large caps shifting from focusing on short term gains to long term gains as the US economy is going through a recession?

With Meta saying they are focusing on the metaverse and losing money on it for the next 3-5 years, is it likely we will see other large caps like,Apple and maybe Google cut their focus on short income for the next couple years as they use the cash they’ve built up to create the next tech cash cows? Sorry if this is crazy.
