More awareness needs to be raised about the condition and more people need to get connected with a CPAP. Here's a research article showing how prevalent the condition is; nearly a billion people worldwide ages 30-69 suffer from the condition. A CPAP is the main treatment for sleep apnea. Getting connected with treatment is one of the biggest quality of life improvements a person can have, if they've been living with the condition undiagnosed. Legit, a CPAP makes someone that suffers from sleep apnea feel like they have super powers.
The lack of awareness about the condition really pisses me off. It's criminally underdiagnosed, and contributes to the leading causes of death including heart attacks, strokes, car accidents, suicide, and more. Unfortunately, sleep apnea won't have it's tik tok moment until well.. gen z and millennials start spreading awareness about the prevalence and dangers of the condition on tik tok.
Resmed (RMD) and Phillips (PHG) are the main manufacturers of CPAPs. Inspire Medical (INSP) created an implant, similar to a pacemaker, to help keep the airways open at night to help someone breath. My biggest holding is Resmed. I wouldn't be surprised if they one day grow to be as large as a company as Eli Lilly one day.
Moments like this, with someone like Ray Liotta dying in his sleep at a relatively young age, serves as a reminder that there needs to be more awareness about the condition. That, and there's some dollars to be made in this sub sector, and when more dollars are made, there will be more awareness and hopefully more lives saved.
I'm a perma bull on sleep apnea stocks. Also, RIP Ray Liotta.
