I haven’t gained anything since getting into stocks.

I got into stocks about a year ago. And I have not gained any money In doing so. I’ve lost a few hundred dollars, and have only gained a few dollars here in there. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. What are some safe stocks that will for sure give returns?
