Knowing the options expirations weeks helps me anticipate volatility & avoid a lot of stress. This is an Op-Ex week.

Around every OP-Ex week I see a lot of stress coming and prepare for it. This is something I'd like to share with the subreddit. There is generally a lot of volatility around the expirations of options on the 3rd Friday of each month. If markets are falling, the volatility might be downward. If markets are rising, the volatility might be upward.

The reasons for the volatility, and what directions one might expect, are best left for options traders to explain, but basically, knowing the OP-Ex weeks can help you to prepare when to buy dips or when to just brace yourself for volatility and not get too stressed when markets seem out of control.

Tomorrow is the 3rd Friday in May, and as I expected, there is market volatility. This week, the volatility is also interacting with some negative downside surprises from retail earnings reports, to make this a strongly negative downside week.
