27y/o – I have $1000 to invest that I want to use for starting 20+ year investments, what should I do?

I have been awful with money for years. I want to start building some basic investments now and I have $1000 to start. If everything goes well, I can put another 1500-3000 away by next year. Where the hell do I start? I want low risk investments that are pretty expected to grow.
